I visited Dad when I went to Oahu for a stressful family issue that had to be resolved. I silently prayed and asked for Dad's blessing and to put in a good word to God. Afterwards, I got into my rental car and drove towards the gates of Mililani Mortuary. As I looked in my rear view mirror towards your grave site, I heard this song on the radio. I've never heard it before but it spoke to my heart that you were with me. Here's the song: Turn Around Look At Me I love you Dad...and yes, everything turned out okay.

Hi, Dad. Happy Birthday. Today you would have been 97 years old. I visited your rest place earlier today. The sun was out, the wind was blowing, and it was nice spending time with you. Everyone is doing great. Our company is doing great as well. You believed in me, and I'm never going to let you down. The world is a better place because you have lived. Love you, Dad.

Happy Father's Day! I just wanted to let you know that we continue to miss you. You are always in our hearts and we love you. You always amazed me with your thoughtfulness and wisdom. It also pained me to see you suffer as you became sick. Yet, you continued to be peaceful and accepting. I hope you are happy in God’s arms of love and with Nan too. Hug her for me and know I continue to remember and love the both of you forever.
Your loving daughter, Gail - 6/21/2020 11:39:57 AM

Hi Dad, Happy Birthday. We are keeping your memories alive and we love you. All is well. Your biggest fans on FB are your grandchildren. You left such a positive impression because they so love and respect your memory.
Gail - 4/4/2017 11:17:01 AM

Hi Dad, This is the 2nd anniversary since you left us. Jennifer and her family visited us last week and it was so good to see them. The girls have grown so much and Nicolette is precious. We love you and remain in our hearts.
Your loving daughter, Gail - 4/2/2016 11:50:29 AM

This will be the 2nd Father's Day without you. I feel the void. I found this on the web and dedicate this to you Dad. Heaven needed an angel and God sent for you. You are gone from us forever. Now what are we to do? We miss you now like never before but we have to let you go. We will never forget you and this we need you to know. Our heart breaks of sadness for the one we adore. Our Lord in heaven has sent for you and needs you more. Goodbye until we meet again in our heart you'll always be. For always you will remain our sweetest memory.

Hi Dad. Mom and I visited your gravesite last week. It was so nice and peaceful. Grace is taking care of it so nicely with flowers, a water bottle and soda. Your area is so much greener than the surrounding area and I found out she has been fertilizing the grass. She is wonderful. Even though I'm not there to visit, I think of your not only daily, but many times a day. I love you.

I had a father who talked with me Allowed me the right to disagree, To question - and always answered me, As well as he could - and truthfully. He talked of adventures; horrors of war; Of life, its meaning; what love was for; How each would always need to strive To improve the world to keep it alive. Stressed the duty we owe one another To be aware each man is a brother. Words for laughter he also spoke A silly song or a happy joke. Time runs along, some say I'm wise That I look at life with seeing eyes. My heart is happy, my mind is free, I had a father who talked with me.
Lydia - 3/3/2015 10:48:06 PM

Before the year is up I promised that I will share some thoughts of Dad. This is the month of December, it's time. With six kids in the family, the flashbacks in my mind, I see Dad and mom, when they come home from the commissary with the groceries. Bags and bags of groceries and Dad looked proud and happy. He wanted us to do well in school, speak English properly, annunciate and pronounce our words correctly. Mom made sure we were always dressed well and we were on our best behavior. Dad rarely disciplined us but when he said to do something, he expected instant response or reaction and he got it. No, we weren't afraid of him, we respected and loved him. We put him on the "He's our Dad" pedestal. Mom did the everyday discipline but Dad only had to raise his voice a bit or one swat of his hand on the rear was potent. That was enough. And when he did discipline us, it was because we deserved it.......we did something very bad. The rule we all carried with us....at least most of us, there is always "the one". Never disrespect your parents, don't sass, don't back talk. Core values. Did you know that he was hard of hearing on one ear due to his time spent in the infantry-tanks? They didn't have the proper ear protection at that time. So the constant barrage of tanks shooting and the noise would do considerable damage to the ears. We kids thought if we were on one side of Dad, we can say things and he wouldn't hear. But Dad only had to turn his head and hear with his good ear....we weren't that smart were we. I'm glad Dad, you were there for me when I hit my ultimate low and though I would have liked to tell you the truth and reason of my decision back in 1972, it would do more harm than good. After all these years, the question would be-if things didn't go as they did, will I be who I am now? No. Nobody but close family would know what I'm talking about-Gail would, because she was there for me too. It was time to move forward and I did. I was the first of the Benigno Family children to start the military family tradition. When Dad was in boot camp in the Army, the drill sergeants had a hard time pronouncing Dad's last name. They nicknamed him Bingo. I decided to join the Navy (Dad said not to join the Army) and the company commanders (Navy equivalent to drill sergeants) called me Bingo. So I became Bingo#2, David who joined the Air Force, Bingo#3, Nanette, Air Force Bingo#4, Van, Army Bingo#5 and now Damian, Air Force Bingo#6. Did you know that Dad was a drill sergeant, a tough one. He carried a big stick and he was very effective with it. Did you know that one of those recruits became his commanding officer later? He was pretty proud of that fact. Anyway, I had orders to become a Navy equivalent to a drill sergeant; a company commander. I used to call Dad all the time, especially when I was learning the marching phase. I had a bit of trouble getting those steps right much less trying to teach them to recruits. Dad was one of the best D.I.s and I became one of the best company commanders along with my husband. The first husband and wife company commanders in the U. S. Navy. Thanks Dad for helping me during that time. I needed that encouragement. You taught all of us by example; integrity, honor, hard work, to serve and be proud of it. To hold our heads high, to be confident. All of us are good citizens who have good morals, good Christians, solid core values. Thank you Dad.

Today we are celebrating the Fourth of July. I will always remember the years you spent serving your country and the wars you fought in. You helped this country great.

Everyday I think of him. I still can't believe he's gone. I'll always remember how gentle he was when I was small. I actually remember crawling in the hall way of our home and then my mom picked me up and smiled, then she passed me to dad. He had a warm touch. He held me up high and looked so happy. I also remember being a crybaby and dad turned on the tv to 'Fat Albert' to calm me down. He was so patient with me and still had a smile on. Miss you dadxoxo

Dad, tomorrow is Father's Day. It has been tough these past few weeks. I bought a card for you a couple of months ago, not realizing I don't have anyone to send it to. So I hope you realize that I'm thinking of you on the day we honor our Fathers. You are special and you have blessed my life. I love you, I honor you and I will always keep you in my heart.

F. Camaquin Elementary School, Vintar dedicated this poem A great Vintarinian is going home, and the town feels the bitter gloom, for he's an eminent builder of scions to lead better lives in different horizons. For many years he inspired students in the elementary Florintino Camaquin and the community through monetarial awards he sent unselfishly, this awakened teachers and the stud entry to burn midnight lamps as to be an awardee. And now most if not all recipients succeeded to find specific lives in different places. This achievement of Mr. Benigno, a precious legacy will remain a beautiful and inspiring memory. Vintar will see you no more but your love for Vintar stays forevermore, Mr. Bernardo P. Benigno mini park, the lasting monument of your vibrant patriotism and benevolence, remains to new, nature's loveliness. Now Vintar gives her congratulations on this your very graduation not from a University, but from life with fully accomplished mission, we give you our love and salute of recognition. Fare Thee Well!
Mrs. Gregoria Agpalza Agbayani - 5/21/2014 5:46:44 PM

To the Bereaved Family of the Late MR. BERNARDO P. BENIGNO: Indeed, we feel the way you feel. Tata David is a man for all times and for all seasons. He has touched the lives of so many deserving young graduates of F. Camaquin Elem. Sch., Vintar, Ilocos Norte. His generosity and concern to inspire young boys and girls is a legacy to be remembered through the years. The Bernardo Benigno Park is a gift of love given by his loving daughter Gail B. King, a multi-purpose structure for school children and the community as well. This and many more is a tangible venue deeply appreciated. Fond thoughts and memories to a great man who was very instrumental in bringing Vintarinians especially his own barangay (Parut) to the Hawaiian islands. In many ways Tata David contributed immensely to the economic growth and progress of his birthplace. May He Rest In Peace ! Mr. & Mrs. Artemon-Lourdes Calaustro nee Lourdes de la Cruz Vintar, Ilocos Norte

What a wonderful big family your father gave you. Although no words can really help ease the loss, just know that I am thinking of you during this sad time.
Loretta Gall - 4/27/2014 4:34:36 PM

We were saddened to hear of your father’s passing. His example provided you with so many lessons on being a good person and how to walk thru life with confidence and faith. Warm condolences to all the family.

Greetings to the Family! We heard the sad news of Manong Dave's passing away. We share with you the pain of losing him. We know he is now resting peacefully in God's paradise. We will always remember him as a good loving brother, a caring, generous man deeply concerned with others welfare. He will live in the hearts and mind of people he had helped and inspired and of all whose lives he had lovingly touched. God bless all of you and be comforted with the thought that he has merely gone ahead to God's Kingdom. Warm regards to one and all
